CSP Genetics Lab offers hybrid purity testing for many vegetable seeds including tomato, watermelon, pepper etc. State of the art methods are used to distinguish hybrid seeds from female and male inbreds.
We use the following markers to perform hybrid purity testing :
- SSR markers (Simple sequence repeat)
- SNP markers (Single nucleotide polymorphism)
- Trait markers
The trait markers include SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism), CAPS (Cleaved Amplified Polymorphic Sequences) and SCAR (Sequence characterized amplified regions) markers. The lab has the latest technology and equipment which includes ABI3100 capillary electrophoresis, Light Scanner (384 well) to run SNP assays using HRM (High Resolution Melt) analysis.
These methods outperform enzyme Iso-electric focusing and other total protein systems. In order to meet the demands of our customers for fast turnaround time, we use high throughput DNA extraction using robotic liquid handling. Usually 96-192 seeds of a hybrid are tested.
