The CmACS-7 gene encodes the enzyme 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid synthase (ACS), pivotal in ethylene biosynthesis. Ethylene, a plant hormone, significantly influences sex determination in melons. Variations in the CmACS-7 gene affect ethylene production levels, thereby altering the development of male, female, or hermaphroditic flowers.
