Australia Updates Seed Testing Policy for Tomato and Capsicum Seeds
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has completed a review of Australia’s seed testing policies for tomato and capsicum seed. As a result, DAFF has updated its policy to establish a list of authorized laboratories registered to conduct testing for Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) and Tomato mottle mosaic virus (ToMMV).
Beginning 1 October 2025, any laboratory intending to test tomato and capsicum seed for export to Australia must be included on this list of authorized laboratories. This requirement ensures that all testing is performed under approved protocols that meet Australia’s strict biosecurity and seed health standards.
