The moschata GBAS panel was developed to address a key limitation in squash genotyping. Existing panels designed for Cucurbita pepo often do not generate informative results when applied to Cucurbita moschata, due to genetic differences between the species. This panel is specifically tailored for C. moschata, enabling more reliable differentiation between varieties that could not previously be resolved using pepo-based assays. By incorporating 96 markers distributed across the genome, the moschata panel improves the ability to distinguish between closely related varieties.
