Full-Service Plant Disease Diagnostics & Variety Identification By DNA Fingerprinting
CSP Labs provides both plant pathology and variety identification services for Grapevine and many other crops.
Variety Fingerprinting
We offer variety identification (variety fingerprinting) services for several crops. Our lab is able to create a reference genetic fingerprint of your material (seed or plant), store it in our database, and run comparisons to that reference as you submit subsequent samples for analysis. We have high throughput equipment including automated liquid handles for DNA extraction, Hydro cyclers for PCR and 96 capillary electrophoresis for fragment analysis. For Grapevine testing our lab uses SSR (simple sequence repeat) by capillary electrophoresis.
We also support many other crops and analysis types, such as SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) genotyping. Depending on the type of material (i.e. which crop, whether it’s seed or plant tissue, etc.), we select the appropriate technology to perform analysis. Our lab is equipped to perform either capillary electrophoresis (CE), Taqman genotyping, or Kompetitive Allele Specific PCR (KASP) techniques. We are able to adapt to customer requirements if a one technology is preferred over another.
Pathology Services
Our plant health lab provides fast diagnosis of plant diseases to help farm and nursery managers take corrective steps as quickly as possible. Results are available as quickly as 2-3 days. Our pathologists are happy to talk to you to learn more about what you’re seeing in the field or if you need input on developing a quality control program. Our customers include nurseries, growers, and consultants.
Testing With CSP Labs
We accept symptomatic and asymptomatic plant tissue and have the necessary permits for you to ship the tissue to our lab. We encourage our customers to discuss their needs with a specialist on our team so we can help you sample if necessary. You’ll be notified when your samples have arrived and when your results are available.
Available Tests
The methods that are applied and the target pathogens are highly dependent on your requirements and the sample. For crops like grapevines or strawberries there are some pathogens that we look for routinely. For these we offer our MultiScan which is a test panel to find those routine pathogens.
